Time is Money...Don't Waste It

Throughout my whole life, I've always heard the expression that time is money and I'm sure you have as well. My mom would come into my room during my high school years when I chose to sleep in and say "GET UP, YOU'RE WASTING THE DAY!" Let me put this right out there: The phrase time is money could not be a more accurate statement. The problem for me was that it probably took twenty years to realize this fact. Don't make the mistake that I did because when I look back at my life I see a lot of wasted time that I wish I had back.

I was always a focused kid, but I wasn't working to my potential. At the time, I believed I was doing everything I could to better myself, but I wasn't optimizing every moment of my day. I did unproductive things with people I didn't necessarily like a whole lot. I would sleep in every opportunity that I could and when I was playing football at Lafayette I would take an early break on studying when I wasn't even close to being prepared for the day ahead of me. When I look back at this wasted time I can't help but kick myself because as I now know...time is money.

24 hours may seem like a lot of time, but it's not. One thing that I will tell you though is that it's enough to get everything done that we can handle. For people that say they don't have enough time to do necessary tasks, they're wrong. I was in this same position. I would say I can't do something because I don't have enough time and as I have recently learned this is wrong.

We need to get the most substance out of every minute of our day because if we don't, all we're doing is wasting time. No matter what age we are at the current moment, everyone's life on Earth is limited and we are cashing in time each day that we will never get back. It's no different if you go buy something from the store. You will NEVER get that specific money back.

So let me pose a question to you...

If you're going to spend money on something, shouldn't you spend it on something you really want?

The same goes for life. If a day goes by shouldn't we live it to the fullest? Shouldn't you do everything in your power to make sure that day wasn't a waste of time? I'm not saying I'm perfect because there are days when I sleep in and there are times when I kick my feet up and chill, but I strive everyday to optimize my time to the best of my ability.

So what does this mean?

I prioritize the things that I need to get done in my life as well as what's personally important to me. Some of these overlap, but I make sure I'm filling my day with the things I value because anything else is wasting time. We all need to sleep, eat, and relax, but if you're not treating each day as money that you're cashing in you won't live to your absolute potential.

Think of your activities and obligations as money. You wouldn't spend money on something you don't really want (most of the time at least) so why not live your life with this same philosophy?

Have a great week and start optimizing your life!
