Three Questions

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How are you going to go get it?

These were the three questions I asked myself before hitting the gym tonight. I had a really long day at work. It wasn't any longer than a typical day, but my eyes were bugging out from staring at a computer screen. I am closing in on finishing a 40,000 word project so I was just ready to crash by 5:00 PM tonight. I woke up at 5:30 AM and got an early workout in, but I planned to do more today following the work day.

When I finished my daily writing and sent my wrap up emails, I just wanted to sleep. I tried talking myself out of working out. I told myself to just lift tomorrow. It's no big deal to miss a day.

I knew I was being soft, but I couldn't help it at all. I just didn't want to work out.

But then three questions hit me...

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How are you going to go get it?

I answered these questions in my head and it was the driving force that got me into the gym.

Maybe this workout didn't directly translate to where I want to get to in my life or maybe it did? I'm not really sure.

The important thing is that I found the discipline to get up and go when I didn't feel like it at all. This is an important lesson that can translate into any facet of life. The work isn't going to do itself. If you want to reach a goal, you can't cheat the journey towards success.

So next time you don't want to do something ask yourself...

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How are you going to go get it?

What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear! Send me an email, comment below, or reach out on social media.
