COVID put an immediate stop to racing for a very long time. I think were going on about six months of cancelations at this point, but the good news is that things are starting to open up again. My last official race was supposed to be a 50 miler in May and that was canceled in March. Fortunately, I was able to do some pretty awesome runs for charity since that cancelation back in March. These were memorable experiences, but I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't excited to toe a start line again.
Tomorrow, I'll be running the Macedonia Trail Race 50K. This isn't your average 50K either because it includes 7,000 ft of elevation gain which is NO JOKE. It's going to be a huge challenge and I can't wait for the opportunity to compete.
So am I prepared? Honestly...I don't know. The unknown is one part of this sport that makes it so addicting. The other part that I love is finding out how far you can go. How far can you push your body past the point where you want to quit? For me, there's beauty in these dark moments because success is determined by your ability to push your negative thoughts to the side and keep moving forward. Lows are inevitable...your ability to respond is the unknown. It's time to go racing!
